The maths of splitting a bill is easy. Agreeing what counts as fair is the difficult part. The best method depends on whether a cost benefits the whole club, a single event or only a few members.

Use an equal club-wide split for costs that benefit every member: league registration, insurance, shared training equipment or website fees. It is simple, predictable and works especially well when membership is stable.
2. Attendance-based split
Pitch hire, entry fees and post-match food are usually fairest when divided between attendees. Keep the RSVP list accurate, then include only the people who participated in that event.
3. Usage-based split
Travel is a classic example. Members in the minibus can share fuel and hire, while anybody travelling independently stays out of that cost. The same idea applies to optional kit, extra coaching or equipment hire.
4. Weighted split
Sometimes members use different amounts of the same service. A touring team might agree that players staying two nights pay twice the accommodation share of those staying for one. Write the weighting down before anybody books.
5. Club subsidy plus member shares
A club fund can cover part of an event to keep it accessible, with attendees sharing the remainder. Record the full cost, the subsidy and the remaining member total separately so everyone can see the decision clearly.
Whichever method you choose, consistency matters more than cleverness. Agree the rule first, show the calculation and use a shared expense tracker such as Splitr so every member sees the same balance.
