Good dinner. No awkward ending.

Equal shares, individual items or a bit of both: find a dinner split that works for your table.

One person had a salad, another ordered three courses, and the starters were for everyone. The best way to split a bill is the one the table agrees on.

Decide before the bill lands

If everyone is ordering similar things, equal shares are usually easy. If orders vary a lot, paying for individual items may feel fairer. A quick conversation early on takes the pressure off later.

Keep the conversation practical: “Shall we each cover our food and share the starters?” gives everyone a clear starting point without making it a big moment.

Separate personal items from shared ones

Assign mains and individual drinks to the people who ordered them. Shared dishes can be divided between the people who actually had them.

Suppose two friends order £18 and £12 mains, plus a £10 shared starter. Before any tip or service charge, their shares are £23 and £17. That small distinction is often all it takes.

Check the extras and the pennies

Read the bill for service charges, discounts and taxes already included in the total. Agree how to divide any added tip and avoid counting an included charge twice.

Some totals do not divide perfectly into pennies. A £10 bill between three people can be split as £3.34, £3.33 and £3.33. Give the extra penny to one share so the amounts add back up to the bill.

Let the receipt do the remembering

With Splitr Pro, photograph the receipt to create an itemised expense. Review the scan, correct anything that needs it and assign the items to the people who had them. Shared items can have more than one person.

Once the split looks right, save it to the group. If one person paid the restaurant, everyone can see their share without another round of messages. Pay them back your usual way and record the payment when it is done.
