How to use this calculator
Change the example numbers to your own. The results update as you type; copy the result to discuss with your group.
- Add everyone included in all the costs you are combining.
- Enter each person’s total payments for the shared expenses, excluding reimbursements.
- Review the suggested transfers, then record payments after they actually happen.
A worked example
Alex pays £120, Sam £60 and Jo £0. Each share is £60, so Jo pays Alex £60; Sam is already settled.
Assumptions to agree before you split
- Every included expense is shared equally by every listed person.
- Do not include personal costs, subgroup expenses or reimbursements as original spending.
- The greedy balance-matching method gives a compact settlement plan; it does not guarantee the mathematically fewest transfers.
Does this send money?
No. It only calculates transfers. Use your usual payment method and check that the recipient received the payment.
What if different people joined different expenses?
This calculator assumes equal participation in all spending. Calculate those subgroups separately or record each expense with its own participants in Splitr.
