How to use this calculator
Change the example numbers to your own. The results update as you type; copy the result to discuss with your group.
- Enter the bill total and standing or fixed costs included in it.
- Enter each person’s occupancy days during this bill period.
- Check the resulting shares against your household agreement.
A worked example
For a £150 bill with £30 standing costs, and occupancy of 30, 30 and 15 days, contributions are £58, £58 and £34.
Assumptions to agree before you split
- Standing costs are shared equally across listed people, even if one enters zero days.
- The usage portion is weighted by days, not metered individual consumption.
- Only use this method if the household has agreed to it; fixed commitments may continue during holidays.
Should someone on holiday pay less?
That is a household decision. Occupancy days are a simple agreed estimate, and do not measure actual energy use or remove fixed commitments.
What if all days are zero?
Enter at least one occupancy day when there is a usage cost. If the entire bill is fixed costs, days do not affect the equal split.
